Sindh government has accelerated efforts to launch an electric taxi service in the province, with Senior Minister SharjeelInamMemon meeting representatives from Chinese automobile giant GAC and Dewan Motors to discuss the initiative. The meeting, held in Karachi, was attended by Transport Secretary AsadZamin, Dewan YousifFarooqui, GAC’s General Manager Chu Song, Chen Wen, and other officials.
During the session, Chu Song provided a detailed briefing on electric vehicles and discussed various options for introducing electric taxis in Sindh. Minister SharjeelMemon assured the Chinese company of full cooperation and support for their investment in this venture. Senior minister highlighted that the Sindh government would provide essential infrastructure for electric taxis, including the installation of charging stations, regulatory streamlining, and fostering a business-friendly atmosphere for investors.
The minister emphasized that these electric taxis would offer modern and safe travel options while significantly reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental sustainability. SharjeelMemon stated that the introduction of the electric taxi service would create new job opportunities in the province. He also announced plans for a Pink Taxi service aimed at providing women with safe, reliable transportation options. The government is keen to expedite the launch of these electric taxis, enabling citizens to enjoy eco-friendly and convenient travel at the earliest possible time.
