ALGIERS — Algerians in Pakistan participated in early presidential elections, as Embassy provides key Support for the domecratic process.

Algeria, a country of around 45 million, heads to polls to cast votes in a pivotal early presidential election.  The incumbent President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced the election date in June, and cited technical reasons for change. This early election comes as the African nation grapples with several national and international challenges, highlighting the need for strong and stable leadership.

Algerian Embassy in Islamabad successfully organized early voting for the Algerian presidential election, which took place from September 5 to September 7. The initiative saw significant participation from the Algerian community residing in Asian nation, ensuring that expatriates could exercise their right to vote ahead of the official election date.

In Algeria, the country’s independent National Election Authority is overseeing the polls to ensure transparency. The current polls are said to be crucial for Algeria’s national revival, with significant implications for both regional stability and global relations.

With approximately 24.4 million registered voters, Algeria has seen over 865,000 expatriates cast their votes in advance. Polling stations opened at 8 AM local time and will close at 7 PM, with a possible extension until 8 PM. Voting also includes nomadic populations at mobile polling stations, with 116,064 voters registered across 134 locations.

The election, initially expected in December 2024, was moved up to September 7 by the incumbent President. He argued that the timing aligns better with the end of summer vacations and the start of the academic year. Critics have argued that the early date coincides with the hotter days of the campaign, potentially impacting voter turnout.
