K-Electric (KE), Pakistan’s leading private electric utility, continues to push forward in its renewable energy initiatives by securing seven bids for its groundbreaking 220 MW solar-wind hybrid project in Dhabeji, Sindh.
This project, the first of its kind in Pakistan, aims to combine solar and wind energy to enhance both operational and financial efficiency. The technical complexity of this venture has attracted significant investor interest, marking another milestone in Pakistan’s transition towards renewable energy. This 220 MW project is a key component of KE’s broader strategy to double its solar capacity and integrate more clean energy into its generation mix.
The project aligns with NEPRA’s directives to reduce reliance on expensive imported fuels by increasing the share of renewables in the energy portfolio. The project has been included in KE’s Power Acquisition Programme (PAP), submitted to NEPRA in early 2023, forming a crucial part of the utility’s long-term renewable energy strategy.
Additionally, KE is preparing for two more projects in Karachi: a 120 MW project at DehHalkani and a 150 MW project at DehMethaGhar, with deadlines set for the end of September 2024.
Commenting on the achievement, KE CEO MoonisAlvi expressed pride in the progress, stating, “K-Electric’s renewable energy projects in Winder and Bela in Balochistan, along with the latest hybrid project in Dhabeji, Sindh, totaling 370 MW, have collectively attracted 2690 MW in offers.
