Lahore, Punjab weather update; more monsoon rains, isolated heavy falls likely

LAHORE – More intermittent monsoon rains with isolated heavy falls are likely in Lahore and parts of Punjab on Monday night and Tuesday.

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate upper and central parts of Pakistan and likely to strengthen tonight. A westerly wave prevails over upper parts of the country.

Under these conditions, monsoon rains and gusty winds are likely in Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Pakpattan, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Layyah, Bhakkar, Bahawalnagar and Dera Ghazi Khan on Monday night. Heavy falls are likely at isolated places in Potohar region.

On Tuesday, more intermittent monsoon rains with isolated heavy falls are likely in Murree, Galliyat, Pothohar region, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Faisalabad, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Layyah, Bhakkar, Multan, Khanewal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Khanpur, Kot Addu and Rahimyar Khan.

Widespread rains may increase flow in local nullas/streams of Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi and northeast Punjab. Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha and Faisalabad. Landslides may disrupt traffic in Murree and Galliyat.

Lahore’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 34-36°C on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Meanwhile, rain-wind/thundershower occurred in Lahore and upper/central Punjab.

In Lahore, maximum temperature was recorded at 35°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 78 per cent.
