Social media and mental health

Social media has become an integral part of our daily routine. We interact with diverse individuals through various apps, including Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram and more. Social media has revolutionised communication, offering multiple benefits.

Social media theory suggests that individuals compare themselves to others on these platforms, potentially leading to negative self-esteem, increased anxiety, depression, stress and loneliness ultimately impacting mental health. Excessive social media use can also create distance in relationships by relying solely on online communication.

On the other hand, social media has bridged geographical gaps, connecting us with family, friends and relatives worldwide. It facilitates making new friends, online shopping, bill payments, food delivery, global news access and entertainment. In conclusion, social media’s impact on society is undeniable, transforming how we communicate, share information, and connect with others. It’s crucial to avoid misinformation, spreading fake news and excessive use to maximise its benefits.

Alarming rise

in inflation

I am writing to express my deep concern about escalating inflation rate in the country and in particular Balochistan. The province is facing an unprecedented surge in prices of essential commodities, leaving many residents struggling to make ends meet. The prices of food items, fuel and medicines have increased exponentially, making it difficult for ordinary citizens to afford basic necessities. The situation is further exacerbated by lack of effective measure to control inflation.

I urge responsible people in relevant ministries to take immediate action to address this issue. The government must implement policies to curb inflation, such as reducing taxes, increasing subsidies and promoting economic growth. The people are suffering and it is collective responsibility of government to work towards finding solution to ensure people’s welfare.

A matter of

expression

I would like to express my gratitude to my father, family members who played an important role in encouraging me to express myself through writing in newspapers and also my teacher Sir Zahoor Abbas Samo who encouraged and motivated me further. I was often disheartened by criticism yet never lost the initiative since I was trained to be bold and brave enough to stand alone. It is not easy to write on anything. I am grateful to Almighty Allah that I am the only girl and student from my background to have been in this field.

Before I started writing, I was a very different person, but it transformed me dramatically, giving me patience, wisdom and courage. Somewhere we will encounter adventures and lessons to make our dreams come true. Everyone is born with many abilities yet it needs aptitude and interest to learn how to write.

Throughout this journey, I have received a great deal of feedback and mostly people have valued my ideas. I am pleased to be a member of Pakistan’s most prominent newspapers Daily Pakistan Observer and wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to my readers, well-wishers and friends for their feedback.

I hope my writings reflect your thinking. I am honoured to be a member of this exclusive community. I shall continue to strive for betterment. Be passionate about your ambitions. There is nothing that is impossible, all you need is determination and effort. Let us work together to improve our society and better our future.

Climate change

Climate change is indeed monumental challenges that we face today .The effects of climate change are widespread, affecting not only environment but also human societies and economies worldwide. Comprehensive and rigorous scientific assessments indicate that climate change is fast happening around the globe. Rising surface air temperatures, warming of oceans, increasing sea levels, retreating glaciers, abnormal weather patterns, and frequency of climate disturbance are unequivocal evidence.

It is largely human-induced. The emission of greenhouse atmospheric gasses is the leading cause.

These glasses are tapping long wave radiation inside the earth’s atmosphere each day pushing the planet closer to the vertex of cataclysmic disaster. The worrying is the fact that despite clear realization, the collective world response to the challenge merely remains limited to paper commitments.

There is no respite from the worsening situation, not to speak of reversal. The underlying idea is to reinforce the fact that climate change is the Everest of all problems and needs the urgent attention of mankind.
