Government urged to support IT sector for revival of economy

LAHORE – Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Kashif Anwar has expressed a resolve to continue supporting the development and uplift of the information technology sector in the country.

Speaking as a chief guest at the ‘CXO Meetup: Transforming Business Strategies’ at a local hotel, he highlighted several taken for the promotion of the IT industry while saying that this practice will continue in the future.

Google, Co Build Pvt Limited and Peak Solutions jointly organized the event which was largely attended by the CEOs and representatives of various IT companies, government officials and business leaders.

Co Build announced officially becoming Google’s partner in Pakistan. Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) Director General Sajid Latif, CEO of Co Build Pvt Limited Imad Malik, CEO of Peak Solutions Mudassar Naeem Chaudhry, Abdul Wahab and others addressed the participants.

Kashif Anwar said that the IT sector has huge potential. “Unfortunately, Pakistan is not benefitting from the actual potential of the IT sector”, he said, adding that the neighbouring country was earning huge foreign exchange through IT export alone.

He urged people at the helm of affairs to review policies and facilitate the IT sector so that it could play its due role in taking Pakistan out of the prevailing economic crises. “Retailers avoid coming into the tax net due to multiple problems”, he said while stressing the need to bring ease in doing business and simplify the taxation process.

CEO Co Build highlighted that the IT sector has immense potential to boost exports and earn huge foreign exchange for the country. He said that there was a need to provide a conducive environment to the IT sector so that it could play its role in reviving the economy of the country.
