WASHINGTON – U.S. Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris expressed deep concern over the deaths in Gaza during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to a foreign news agency, Harris emphasized the urgency of a ceasefire in Gaza, stating that the time has come to end the violence. She assured that she would not remain silent on the Gaza issue.
During the meeting, the U.S. Vice President urged Prime Minister Netanyahu to take steps towards a ceasefire agreement. Harris highlighted that such actions would alleviate the suffering of Palestinian civilians.
Following the meeting, Harris spoke to journalists, saying that she had discussed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza with Netanyahu.
She acknowledged Israel’s right to self-defense but stressed the importance of how it exercises that right.
The observers said that Harris adopted a stern tone when discussing the Gaza issue. By this, they said, she suggested that if elected, she might take a more aggressive stance towards Netanyahu in the future.
