ISLAMABAD – A local court on Tuesday handed over Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Rauf Hassan to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on two-day physical remand in a case related to spreading anti-state propaganda.

Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah passed the order after the FIA officials produced the PTI leader before the court. The judge sent two-female workers of the PTI to jail on judicial remand.

During the hearing, the FIA’s officials had asked the court to hand over the PTI leader and workers to them on 10-day physical remand.

The FIA prosecutor argued that they had to recover the devices linked to the social media accounts of Rauf Hassan and other PTI workers—the accounts which allegedly were being used for anti-state propaganda.

Sardar Latif Khan Khosa who was representing Rauf Hass and other PTI workers opposed the FIA’s plea for 10-day physical remand. He argued that the PTI office had been sealed.

He said that there is an ongoing case in the High Court, and a full bench of 11 judges had affirmed that PTI is and will remain a political party.

Latif Khosa further argued that Rauf Hassan was named in the case based on the statement of one accused individual, and that the FIA already had the devices and mobiles of the arrested PTI workers.

After hearing both sides, the court allowed two-day physical remand of Rauf Hassan and sent two women to jail on the judicial remand.

The Islamabad police had arrested Rauf Hassan from the party’s secretariat in the federal capital on Monday.
