LAHORE – In a major development, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab has made significant progress in the investigation of Amin-ul-Haq Mashriqi, a most wanted Al-Qaeda terrorist who was recently arrested.

According to the sources, Amin-ul-Haq is an Afghan national. The copy of his identity card showed the year 2020, and a separate investigation is ongoing regarding the issuance of a Pakistani identity card.

The sources revealed that during interrogation, Amin-ul-Haq claimed his last meeting with Al-Qaeda’s former leader, Osama bin Laden, took place on November 15, 2001.

CTD Punjab arrested Amin-ul-Haq Mashriqi on Thursday. DIG CTD stated that the terrorist was previously arrested in 2007 and served a four-year sentence.

An enemy country’s agency had done extensive propaganda against him. The terrorist was seen in Afghanistan since August 2021 and had recently entered Pakistan.

“We are investigating what such a high-level terrorist was doing in Pakistan,” the DIG added.

The CTD in-charge said that Amin-ul-Haq Mashriqi also possessed a Pakistani ID card.

The addresses on his identity card are of Lahore and Haripur.  The authorities are investigating how the suspect entered Pakistan and which ID he used for travel.
