Professors of grade-20 in Punjab have termed the cut in Disparity Reduction Allowance (DRA) unfortunate and an unjust act and called upon the government to withdraw its decision. In a statement, the affected professors regretted that the Punjab education department had stopped the DRA allowance given to the professors who were promoted to grade-20 and grade-19. They have demanded of the provincial government not to deprive the professors promoted to grade-20 in Punjab of the said allowance. This is sheer injustice as around 600 staff of the education department across the province will be affected by this reduction in allowance.
This amounts to 45pc of the salary. By eliminating this allowance, the provincial government has in fact reduced the salary of professors instead of increasing.
