KARACHI – The police have arrested Babar, the main suspect in a case involving the theft of mobile phones belonging to 59 girls at a farmhouse in Karachi’s Gadap area, and recovered 40 phones and a pistol from his possession.
The police officials said the suspect allegedly lured the girls to the location by offering them employment opportunities before fleeing with their mobile phones.
The arrest was made in Gadap, where police apprehended suspect Babar while he was allegedly transporting the stolen mobile phones for sale.
Police said the recovery of 40 mobile phones was a major development in the investigation, as the authorities sought to establish the whereabouts of the remaining stolen devices and identify the full extent of the suspects’ involvement.
Investigators further revealed that other suspects allegedly involved in the incident had already been arrested.
According to police, Babar had allegedly planned the operation, while the other suspects were also allegedly involved in carrying it out.
The authorities are examining the arrested suspect’s criminal record to determine whether he has been involved in similar offences in the past.
Further investigation is under way to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether the suspects were part of a wider network involved in theft and fraud.
The case emerged after reports that more than 50 girls had their mobile phones stolen.
The victims were allegedly brought to the location on the pretext of employment at a farmhouse, after which their phones were taken.
Police have not yet disclosed further details about the identities of the other arrested suspects or the recovery of the remaining mobile phones.
The investigation is underway as the police are working to gather additional evidence and establish the individual roles of those allegedly involved in the incident.
