ADDRESSING troops during his visit to Line of Control, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir condemned India’s ongoing oppression and brutalities against Kashmiris, noting that post-election, India has been attempting to mask its aggression and victimization of the Kashmiri people with false propaganda and provocations against Pakistan.
Pakistan’s position on Kashmir has always been clear and principled, rooted in the UN Security Council resolutions that call for a plebiscite to determine the region’s future. In contrast, India has consistently obstructed any meaningful resolution by forcefully occupying and subjecting the people of Jammu and Kashmir to a campaign of terror and persecution. Recently, India’s External Affairs Ministry boldly stated that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of India, disregarding their disputed status under international law. Such statements by Indian officials not only defy international consensus but also attempt to mislead the global community on the reality of Kashmir as a disputed territory. General Munir’s remarks underscore Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination, promising solidarity until they achieve their rightful aspirations. Moreover, the Chief of Army Staff’s warning regarding any violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty highlights the nation’s readiness to defend itself against Indian aggression. Pakistan’s defence forces have a proven track record of thwarting Indian designs, as evidenced by incidents like the February 2019 aerial skirmish where Pakistani jets shot down Indian aircraft and captured a pilot. Pakistan desires regional peace and stability. However, India’s refusal to engage constructively and its consistent belligerence have hindered any progress towards resolving the Kashmir dispute. The international community must not be swayed by India’s rhetoric, recognizing that Kashmir remains a flashpoint demanding urgent attention. Continued hostility serves neither country’s interests and the path to sustainable peace lies in respecting the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and resolving disputes through peaceful means.
