The Sindh Excise Department is set to digitize its tax system and integrate it with One Link, aiming to streamline tax collection and improve efficiency. The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Senior Minister of Sindh and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, Excise, and Taxation, Sharjeel Inam Memon. Key attendees included Secretary Excise Saleem Rajput, DG Excise Aurangzeb Panhwar, DG Narcotics Control Usman Ghani Siddiqui, and other senior officers. During the meeting, Minister Memon was updated on the progress of the new premium number plates initiative.

It was decided to issue premium numbers in three categories: 10 plates in the platinum category, 11 in the gold category, and 10 in the silver category. This move is part of the broader effort to modernize the department’s operations and enhance revenue generation. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon also gathered detailed information regarding property tax, professional tax, and other taxes.

He issued instructions to the excise and taxation authorities to meet the targets for property tax, professional tax, and other taxes. In the meeting, the senior minister was informed that show-cause notices had been issued to 82 officers of the Excise Department for not performing well in achieving the targets. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon directed the suspension of excise employees who are neglecting their duties and ordered other disciplinary actions. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that an online payment system should be implemented to simplify the tax system.

He instructed that the tax system should be swiftly transitioned online and linked with One Link for the convenience of the public. He stated that affixing official number plates on unregistered and private vehicles constitutes a crime.

Legislation will be enacted to address this issue, making the use of fake number plates a non-bailable offense punishable with imprisonment for at least one year.
