LAHORE – The revocation of Net metering for solar systems remains the talk of the town as the previous announcement sent shockwaves among people who invested in green technology.
Amid the contrasting reports, Energy Minister Awais Leghari shared update, clearing air that federal government has no such plans to revoke solar net metering after the upcoming budget.
As media reports sparked controversy, the incumbent government mulled proposing changes primarily to the financial regulations, while net metering users prefer to maintain the existing rules.
Federal Energy Minister Awais Ahmad Leghari said the government has no plans to end the policy of solar net metering in upcoming budget. He turned down worrisome media reports and stressed that the government would continue to support solar power, highlighting that the policy was initiated by PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif.
He mentioned that Nawaz Sharif-led government introduced scheme solar net-metering in 2017. And we will continue encouraging net metering since it is a scheme close to the heart of PM Shahbaz Sharif, the minister said.
Leghari assured that consumers who have already installed solar power and have net metering contracts with distribution companies would not be affected. The government will continue to encourage net metering in the future, and any policy changes will be made in consultation with all stakeholders, he added.
