Summer vacation 2024 in Punjab to start early as new schedule revealed

LAHORE – Summer vacations for schools across the Punjab will start early on May 25 as the provincial government has announced seven holidays due to predictions of heatwaves in the province.

“In view of surge in temperature and heatwave in the proivince, all public and private schools shall remain closed for seven days with effect from 25th May 2024 to 31st May 2024.

“However, schools will be allowed to conduct examinations as scheduled with necessary precautions to ensure safety of students,” read the notification.

It is recalled that summer vacations is set to commence from June 1, 2024 till August 14. With the announcement of the seven additional holidays due to heatwaves, students will get early summer break this year.

Start of Summer Vacation May 25
End of Summer Vacation August 14

All government and private schools will reopen on August 15 after 2.5 months summer break.

What’s the Reason Behind Early Summer Holidays

The development comes in light of the Met office’s predication that due to high pressure in the upper atmosphere, heatwave conditions are likely to develop over most parts of the country, especially over Punjab and Sindh from 21st May and likely to convert to severe heatwave conditions from 23rd to 27th May.

Day temperatures are likely to remain 04 to 06°C above normal in Sindh and Punjab from 21st to 23rd and from 06 to 08°C from 23rd to 27th May.
