IHC replies to Faisal Vawda’s letter about Justice Sattar’s green card issue

ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday clarified that holding citizenship or residency of another country did not disqualify a judge under the Constitution of Pakistan.

The IHC Registrar Office maintained it in response to a letter written by Senator Faisal Vawda seeking details of correspondence between then-IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah and Babar Sattar regarding the latter’s green card.

It said that details regarding dual nationality or citizenship of another country are not sought from the potential candidates for the post of judge.

It added Justice Athar Minallah, who is currently serving as a Supreme Court Judge, had also clarified this matter in the proceedings of the case related of IHC judges letter.

Furthermore, Justice Minallah had also informed that Justice Sattar’s green card issue was discussed in the Supreme Judicial Council. After the discussion, the SJC approved the appointment of Justice Babar Sattar as the IHC judge.

The IHC registrar office said it did not hold record of discussions in the Judicial Commission.

Senator Faisal Vawda had submitted a request to the registrar of the high court seeking the release of communications between SC Justice Minallah and IHC’s Justice Babar Sattar on the latter’s green card.
