Family members, relatives as well as locals held a strong protest demonstration in Thannamandi area of Rajouri district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir against the suspicious death of a local man, identified as Mohammed Kabir, what is believed another case of custodial killing, in Jammu region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the protesters kept the body of Mohammed Kabir on the road at Lah village in district and staged the protest for several hours, demanding justice for the victim family.
Mohammed Kabir, son of Salam Din, hailing from Lah village, had gone to Mumbai, India, three months ago for work as a laborer but found dead under suspicious circumstances in Jammu while returning home.
He arrived at Jammu Railway Station on the morning of May 7 but then went missing under suspicious circumstances.
He was in touch with the family on the phone. After no response to his phone calls, the family members got suspicious and reached Jammu and contacted the police.
After examining the footage of the CCTV camera installed at Jammu Railway Station, it was found that he had boarded off at Jammu railway station on May 7 but went missing somewhere under mysterious circumstances.
On May 10, Jammu police recovered the deceased body from a field in the Satwari area of Jammu.
Family members said that when the body was handed over to them, his clothes and shoes were not the same as those he was wearing when he got down at the Jammu Railway Station.
Keeping the deceased body on the Rajouri-Thannamandi road, the family members kept protesting from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., pleading for justice and saying it was a blind murder.—KMS
