Electricity, flour rates revised, internet restored in AJK as govt approves provision of Rs23bn

Muzaffarabad – In a relief for residents of Azad Kashmir, as AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq announced revised rates of electricity and flour and on other commodities after violent protests in the region.

An agreement was reached between government and Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee on the demands. All demands of the AJK Action Committee have been accepted while internet services have been restored in the region.

The government has also issued notification of reduction in the price of flour and new electricity rates. As per the revised rates, the price of flour has been fixed at Rs2000 per maund whereas, the price of electricity up to 100 units has been fixed at Rs 3 per unit, from 100 to 300 units at Rs 5 and above 300 at Rs 6 per unit.

According to the notification, the commercial price has been fixed at Rs 10 per unit up to 300 and Rs 15 per unit above 300.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the immediate allocation of Rs23 billion to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) following recent clashes and protests in the region.

Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), representing traders, has been demanding fair electricity rates, subsidized flour, and an end to elite privileges.
