China’s unequivocal support

FEW are the countries which have openly and in clear words supported Pakistan’s stance over recent unconstitutional actions of the Indian Government in occupied Kashmir. These indeed are China and Turkey which fully threw their weight behind the Kashmiri people, proving once again that they stand for justice and are steadfast friends of Pakistan.
In the backdrop of entire situation evolving in occupied Kashmir where security lockdown is continuing and over six hundred people have been arrested ever since the scrapping of special status of the territory, the meeting between Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi was very significant one to chalk out a strategy to counter the illegal acts of India. Whenever Pakistan finds itself in any difficult situation, it is China which has stood by Pakistan like a true iron brother and Friday’s meeting once again proved that Beijing is a trustworthy friend as the Chinese side in unequivocal terms announced that they will uphold justice for Pakistan on the international arena and that it supports Pakistan’s decision to approach the UN Security Council over India’s controversial steps that indeed are contrary to the international laws as well as the UNSC’s Resolutions on Kashmir. Expressing concerns over unilateral actions of India, the Chinese side also called for resolution of Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN Charter. Now with the Chinese support, a resolution can be moved in the UNSC to condemn the illegal Indian actions, calling also for their reversal. It is yet to be seen whether other permanent members of the Security Council also support the resolution or out of their political and economic expediency once again turn their back to the plight of Kashmiri people. In our view, the Foreign Minister must also undertake visits to the capitals of other permanent members of the UNSC in order to apprise them about the actual situation and garner their support. At this juncture, Pakistan also expects Muslim countries especially from the Gulf to emphatically extend their support to Kashmiri people and use their influence to get the UNSC resolution passed.
