ISLAMABAD – US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome called on Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani at the parliament house in Islamabad on Wednesday.
The both sides discussed Pakistan-US bilateral relations as well as the promotion of public-level contacts.
The US Ambassador felicitated Yusuf Raza Gilani on assuming the office of the Chairman Senate.
A day earlier, US Ambassador Donald Blome took part in the inauguration of a Police Training College campus in Quetta on Tuesday, marking the commencement of a four-year, $5.35 million collaboration funded by the US Embassy’s International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Section.
During his address at the ceremony, Ambassador Blome highlighted the significance of the seven new and four renovated buildings within the campus. He emphasized that these additions not only triple the capacity of the Police Training College but also ensure that new recruits and officers receive skills-based, high-quality training essential for deployment in Pakistan’s most challenging areas.
Blome underscored the importance of the new facility in preparing officers trained at PTC Quetta to effectively tackle the risks and challenges they encounter daily in their line of duty. Additionally, he announced upcoming deliveries of radio communication equipment worth $900,000 and thirty-five mine detectors.
Recently, the US provided vehicles valued at $700,000 and blast suppression equipment worth $195,000, significantly enhancing operational capabilities and security across the province.
Furthermore, Ambassador Blome acknowledged the efforts to recruit more female police officers, establish gender desks in police stations, and improve facilities for women and underserved communities. He reiterated the US commitment to collaborating with Pakistan to address economic, energy, and environmental challenges, emphasizing that progress in areas such as trade, clean energy, investment, education, and climate change hinges upon a foundation of security and the rule of law.
