Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday ordered ensuring the protection of Chinese nationals living in the province besides beefing up security in and around sensitive places.
The chief minister gave these orders while chairing the first apex committee meeting after taking office.
Punjab Police and other departments, on the occasion, briefed the chief minister about the law and order situation in the province. It was decided at the meeting that in view of a suicide attack on the Chinese engineers at Besham in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other incidents of terrorism in the country, search operations in the province would be sped up. Data on the Afghans living illegally in Punjab and the people indulging in propaganda on social media were also presented at the meeting.
Meanwhile in the wake of a suicide attack on a vehicle carrying Chinese engineers at Besham, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) over a week ago in which five engineers had lost their lives, the security of Chinese nationals living in Punjab has been tightened.
The Punjab Home Department has banned the movement of Chinese engineers, including the country’s ambassadorial and consulate staff, in cars other than bulletproof vehicles..
