PTI’s Hammad Azhar Sent on Judicial Remand in May 9 Riot Case

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Tuesday sent PTI leader Hammad Azhar to jail on a 14-day judicial remand in a case related to the May 9, 2023, riots.

Azhar was produced before the court after completing his physical remand, bringing his total custody period to 50 days. The court had last extended his physical remand by 12 days on October 15.

Azhar, who was arrested in Multan, had been declared a proclaimed offender in multiple cases linked to the May 9 violence.

The unrest erupted after PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan was arrested in a corruption case, prompting party supporters to attack public and military installations, including the Corps Commander House in Lahore.
