Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa weather; significant rain, snowfall, hailstorm likely

PESHAWAR – Significant rains with snowfall over the hills and isolated hailstorms are likely in Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday evening/night and Wednesday.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a westerly wave will likely enter western parts of Pakistan today evening/night. It will likely grip most upper/central parts of the country on Wednesday.

Under these conditions, rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over the hills are likely in Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Bajaur, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan and Kurram on Tuesday evening/night and Wednesday. Heavy falls/hailstorms are also expected at isolated places during the period.

Heavy rain with snowfall at isolated places may cause the closure of roads in Galyat, Naran, Kaghan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad and Shangla on Wednesday and Thursday. Heavy falls may cause landslides in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Galyat. Wind-thunderstorm/hailstorms may damage loose structures like electric poles and solar panels.

Peshawar’s minimum temperatures will likely remain between 11-13 degrees Celsius on Wednesday and 10-12 C on Thursday.

Meanwhile, cold/partly cloudy weather prevailed in Peshawar and most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours.

Kalam remained the coldest place in the country where the temperature dropped 03 C below freezing.

In Peshawar, minimum temperature was recorded at 11 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 77 per cent.
