Mayor, WB team meet to enhance water sector cooperation

Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, in collaboration with CEO of Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KW&SC), Syed Sallahuddin Ahmed, convened a meeting with the Global Director of the World Bank, Saroj Kumar Jha, at the Chairman Secretariat Karsaz. The discussion focused on exploring avenues of mutual cooperation in the water and sewerage sector in Karachi.

The World Bank delegation, comprising WB Country Director Naje Benhsen, senior infrastructure expert Khairi Al-Jamal, and Practice Manager Josses Mugabi, engaged in detailed discussions during the meeting. Also present were COO KWSC Engineer Asadullah Khan, PD KWSSIP Usman Moazzam, DMD Planning Muhammad Ayoob Shaikh, and other officials. CEO KW&SC provided the delegation with a comprehensive overview of the corporation’s operations and strategies for effective service delivery.

He outlined a roadmap for achieving the corporation’s goals, focusing on institutional reforms, revenue enhancement, and increasing private sector participation, as per the Commitment of Cooperation signed with the World Bank. Mayor Karachi highlighted the government’s support for ensuring effective service delivery and explored opportunities for collaboration, such as developing community-based RO plants and tapping into green energy potential for future projects.

The World Bank delegation commended the city’s efforts and pledged full cooperation for more effective service delivery projects. Additionally, the delegation visited the Hydrant Management and Monitoring Center, where they appreciated CEO KWSC’s efforts in enhancing efficiency and service orientation within the organization. They lauded the establishment of the center and the unprecedented operations carried out under its purview.
