The Muttahida Qaudi Movement-Pakistan has sought the resignation of Mohan Manjiani after it was allegedly found that he had contacts with the Indian spy agency, sources within the party said on Tuesday. The leadership of the Karachi based party decided after the report of the intelligence agencies, they added.

The development comes a day after the Election Commission of Pakistan suspended the notification issued for Manjaini on the seats reserved for non-Muslims in the National Assembly. The MQM-P won 17 National Assembly seats in the general elections. The party is part of the multi-party coalition that is set to rule the country. On Monday, members from the PPP and treasury benches called on the MQM-P leaders to seek a vote for the presidential elections.

According to sources, Manjiani’s activities were linked to the Indian High Commission and several of his calls were traced back to the nuclear-armed neighbour. They added that he made calls to Secretary of the Research and Analysis Wing Ravi Sinha and sensitive documents were recovered from Manjiani’s house.
