In a recent monthly meeting of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) held at the DC office, Chairman of the RTA and Deputy Commissioner Attock, Rao Atif Raza, highlighted the district administration’s commitment to ensuring passenger safety and convenience. This initiative is in line with the directives from the Punjab government to enhance the overall travel experience.
The meeting, chaired by Rao Atif Raza, was attended by key officials, including Additional Deputy Commissioner Finance and Planning Attock, Maleeha Itsar, Secretary RTA Attock, Sardar Zaheer Ahmed Khan, and District Emergency Officer Ali Hussain.
During the session, Secretary RTA Attock, Sardar Zaheer Ahmed Khan, shared essential statistics, revealing that from July 2023 to February 2024, a total of 7,256 commercial vehicles were fined, amounting to Rs. 6,093,250 in penalties. Additionally, the permits and fitness certificates of 98 vehicles were suspended, and 8,581 individuals faced consequences for violating traffic rules.
District Emergency Officer Ali Hussain reported on road safety, stating that the previous year witnessed 3,028 accidents in the district, resulting in 3,563 injuries and 49 fatalities. Addressing the gathering, DC Attock, Rao Atif Raza, announced ongoing efforts in the registration process for Chung Chi rickshaws, emphasizing forthcoming measures for dedicated parking. Moreover, the implementation of a strategy to combat vehicle smoke-induced smog and prevent climate pollution has commenced.
DC Attock instructed the traffic and RTA staff to take strict action against overcharging in commercial vehicles.
