The Punjab Assembly session will be held today (Friday) in a bid to mark the formation process of the provincial government after the general elections held on February 8.

Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rehman has officially issued a notification summoning the assembly session.

The Punjab Assembly is scheduled to Maryam Nawaz will have the backing of over 190 directly-elected members and representatives from the reserved seats for women and minorities. However, allocation of reserved seats to various parties remains uncertain as independents supported by the PTI aligned with the Sunni Ittehad Council. The Election Commission of Pakistan will determine the eligibility of these seats.

The inaugural session of the Punjab Assembly, will witness the election of the speaker, deputy speaker, and the chief minister.

Prior to the assembly session, the PML-N called for a parliamentary party meeting chaired by Maryam. During a gathering with her party’s MPAs earlier in the week, Maryam Nawaz outlined development goals reminiscent of her father and uncle’s tenures as provincial chief executives.

These include establishing five IT cities, facilitating youth loans, enhancing healthcare and agriculture sectors, and attracting foreign investment.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Assembly’s session for the oath-taking of the newly elected MPAs has been summoned on Saturday (February 24). Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori approved Caretaker Chief Minster Sindh Maqbool Baqar’s recommendation and called the first session of the Sindh Assembly on Saturday.

The newly elected representatives of the Sindh Assembly will take oath in the first session of the legislative assembly.
