On orders of the Supreme Court, the Clifton Cantonment Board and the district government began an operation on Tuesday against illegal buildings in Delhi Colony. The demolition of an 12-storey building in Delhi Colony began Tuesday morning. The apartment complex comprises 24 flats and four shops. Delhi Colony, where the said building is located, is a densely populated area and the CBC team faced difficulties because of the narrow lanes adjacent to the building. Residents of the area and the building gathered at the time of operation. They expressed their grave concerns over its demolition. They were of the view that the government should first provide alternate space to them before demolishing illegal structures. “The shops, markets, shopping centers and residential units are being demolished by the authorities without providing alternate space,” one of the residents told media. Another resident, Karim, said that it was unjust to deprive a person of their residence without giving them alternate space or time to move to another place. CBC Vigilance Team Director Colonel (retd) Mohammad Adil told media that the illegal structure consists of Ground+11 floors and no one is residing in it. Adil is supervising the demolition operation in Cantonment Board Clifton.
