ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s interim government members hinted at possible suspension of internet services on Election Day, causing frenzy among people but now Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirmed that internet services will continue without any restrictions.
Social media was all buzzing with reports as previous reports said internet service on Feb 8 will remain suspended only if it receives request from district or province amid worsening security situation.
Even, international watchdog expressed concern over this decision, requesting government to ensure access to the internet on that day.
PTA however clarified that internet will work without any interruption.
Besides the ban on freedom of speech, snapping of internet also holds economic repercussions. Pakistan saw several situation when internet services were revoked amid political turmoil in 2023.
The IT industry also lost millions and reputation with international clients as service providers and online services remain in dire straits.
