ISLAMABAD – The National Highway and Motorway Authority (NHMA) has announced that vehicles will not be allowed to use all motorways without M-Tag registration, starting from February 5, 2024.

The authority in a statement said that the decision aimed at reducing waiting time at entry and exits points of motorways as previously motorists had to wait in queues to pay toll tax.

All vehicles are required to obtain the M-Tag to use the wide network of motorways, including  Peshawar-Islamabad-Lahore Motorway (M1), Pindi Bhattian-Multan Motorway (M4), Hakla-DI Khan Motorway (M14), Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Motorway (M3), Multan-Sukkur Motorway (M5), and Hassanabdal-Mansehra Expressway (E35).

To get M-Tag, the motorists can visit the customer care center with their vehicle registration book/card and CNIC.

In light of the new regulation, the National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) and the NHA have issued several advisories to motorists.

How to Get M-Tag for Using Motorways

Step 1: You need to find a nearby booth, which are usually located near major toll plazas and services areas on motorways.

Step 2: You need your original CNIC and a copy of your vehicle’s registration certificate to proceed with the application.

Step 3: At this stage, you will fill out the application form, which can be gotten from the booth, proving all required information.

Step 4: After filling out the application form, submit it along with the required documents to the booth attendant. They will verify the information provided in the form.

Step 5: If your application is approved, an M-Tag will be issued to you. The sticker will be affixed to the vehicles’ windshields.

You can check the status or recharge the balance via NHA’s One Network mobile phone application.
