In a recent interview with a foreign TV Channel’ Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Sirajul Haq, expressed concern over potential unrest and riots if upcoming elections lack transparency. Haq urged the establishment to learn from past experiences and maintain a neutral stance to ensure fair elections, emphasizing that the credibility of the electoral process depends on the neutrality of institutions like the judiciary and the Election Commission.
Haq highlighted lingering doubts about the upcoming elections and stressed that the establishment’s neutrality is crucial for the reputation of state institutions. He pointed out that the establishment’s involvement in the 2018 elections had repercussions, with the current government facing criticism for its ties to the military.
The Jamaat-e-Islami leader acknowledged the possibility of various parties entering the National Assembly following the elections, stating that his party, having fielded over 700 candidates, will decide whether to join the government coalition or sit in the opposition based on the election results.
Reflecting on past electoral alliances, Haq mentioned that the party’s experience with unity in elections has not always resulted in achieving the desired revolutionary reforms. While these alliances may secure seats and ministries, they often fall short of implementing transformative changes in the political system.
