ISLAMABAD – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has approved a public holiday on February 8 across the country on account of general elections 2024.
The electoral watchdog has issued a notification in this regard, stating that all educational institutions and markets will remain closed on Feb 8.
The election watchdog said that the decision for public holiday has been taken to facilitate the voters so they can use their right without any hindrance.
The general elections scheduled for Feb 8 and voters will be given from 8:00am to 6:00pm to cast their vote.
A day earlier, Punjab government has announced four holidays in all schools and higher educational institutions across the region for the upcoming elections that are scheduled to be held on February 8, 2024.
All private and government schools, colleges, and varsities in the region will remain closed from February 6 to February 9 for the general elections.
Last week, the federal government announced a public holiday for February 5 (Kashmir Day), which wll be followed by election holidays from February 6-9. Schools will remain closed for next two days due to the weekend.
All educational institutions will start educational activities from February 12 after the week-long closure.
