The Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI-M) leader in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Mohammad YousufTarigami, has said that an unconventional census initiated by the Indian police and armed forces has triggered widespread anxiety among the residents in the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami in a post on ‘X’ said an unusual census being conducted by the police and forces has stirred up anxiety among the people. He said clueless residents perceive it as India’s another attempt to tighten control over the territory, raising concerns about privacy and government overreach.
The CPI-M leader said that the Indian government must clarify the type and purpose of this census.
Pertinently, Indian police and armed forces have started a move to collect personal information from residents across the occupied territory. This disturbing measure, which involves soliciting details such as individuals’ names, vehicles and contact information, has triggered widespread panic among the Kashmiri people.
Political parties have termed it as a direct assault on the inherent rights and identity of ordinary Kashmiris.—INP
