Heavy deployment of Indian troops in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir is badly affecting the students’ education.
A report released by the Kashmir Media Service on the occasion of International Day of Education, today, said India is denying all fundamental freedoms including the right to education to the people of occupied Kashmir. It said education has taken a major hit in IIOJK due to long-drawn conflict and Indian clampdown on dissent.
The report maintained that the Kashmiri students are harassed and humiliated by Indian troops on a daily basis while post August 5, 2019, educational institutions witnessed prolonged closures. It said frequent cordon and search operations, raids and undue restrictions are disrupting students’ education in the occupied territory. It said parents hesitate to send their children to schools for fear of being picked up by Indian troops as killing of local youth in fake encounters has become a routine.
The report said regular internet suspensions by the Indian authorities have affected the education in IIOJK. It said how can Kashmiri students pay attention to education when killings have become a routine in IIOJK?
The report pointed out that the Kashmiri students are not even safe inside India where they are harassed by Hindutva goons and expelled from educational institutions. It said that hundreds of incidents of attacks on Kashmiri students by Hindutva-affiliated groups have been reported from different parts of India post August 2019. India is also barring the Kashmiri students from studying in colleges outside India, especially in Pakistan, it deplored.
Continuous disruption of education is giving rise to depression among Kashmiri students, the report said, adding that it is time for the international community to pay attention to the plight of the Kashmiri students.—KMS
