Indian National Congress leader Ravinder Sharma has said that the NarendraModi-led BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP) government has failed to hold Panchayat elections in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir due to fear of defeat.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Ravinder Sharma in a statement issued in Jammu said the Panchayat Raj system has collapsed in occupied Kashmir due to the expiring of the term of Panchayats in territory. He said the BJP has deliberately delayed the Panchayat elections due to fear of defeat.

The term of Panchayat Raj in the occupied territory expired on Tuesday. “BJP allowed Panchayat Raj system to die its own death as it was not confident of winning. People’s aspirations and rights do not matter to the ruling BJP, which is now evidently clear,” Sharma said.

The Congress leader said that the BJP wanted to give the powers in the hands of a few bureaucrats to easily run through remote control from New Delhi to carry out the propaganda and publicity of the BJP government through the administrative machinery, for the upcoming elections in India. The entire administrative and field machinery is on a publicity job of the BJP government with an eye on general elections, he added.—KMS
