RAWALPINDI –  Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, former Punjab chief minister, was transferred to the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (PIC) after experiencing a deterioration in his health while in jail as reported on Wednesday.

The medical tests, prompted by complaints of chest pain, were conducted at the PIC, where the results of his electrocardiogram (ECG) and echocardiogram are currently pending.

Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi is one of several PTI leaders and supporters who have been detained as part of a crackdown on PTI leadership following the violent unrest in the country subsequent to the initial arrest of Imran Khan on May 9.

The PTI leader faced multiple arrests since June 1 in various cases, with the most recent occurring on September 18 by the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE).

According to information provided by an ACE spokesperson, Elahi is accused of making 12 illegal recruitments in the Punjab Assembly for grade 17 positions. The recruitments allegedly involved manipulating records within the provincial assembly.
