Senators and several organisations have taken aim at three Republican senators for asking President Joe Biden’s historic judicial nominee, Adeel Mangi, unpleasant questions during his confirmation hearing.

In terms of nominations to the federal appellate court, he is the first Muslim-American.

Senators Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, and Tom Cotton grilled Adeel Mangi about his opinions on the October 7 attack in Israel, the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Centre, and the conflict between Tel Aviv and Palestine during the Senate judiciary body’s hearing, according to HuffPost.

He will become the third Muslim-American federal judge and the first Muslim-American judge on an appeals court if confirmed. Mangi was nominated by the US president to the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, which is located in Philadelphia.

Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell condemned the senators “for subjecting Mr Mangi to irrelevant, hostile questions about Israel and Palestine”.
