The United States has warned North Korea that any nuclear attack against the nation or its allies is unacceptable and will result in the end of the Kim regime, a joint US-South Korean statement said on Saturday.
“The US side reiterated that any nuclear attack by the DPRK against the ROK will be met with a swift, overwhelming, and decisive response,” the statement said.
The second US-Republic of Korea Nuclear Consultative Group convened in Washington on Friday.
The United States and South Korea are planning to draw up joint guidelines on nuclear defence strategy by the middle of next year and establish an integrated system to deter North Korea’s nuclear weapons, Yonhap news agency earlier reported.
Washington and Seoul have decided to complete a comprehensive guideline by next year on how to contain and respond to Pyongyang’s nuclear threat together, Yonhap reported, citing Kim Tae-hyo, South Korea’s deputy national security adviser speaking to reporters in the U.S.—Reuters
