Commemorating International Human Rights Day: Freedom, Equality, and Justice for All the Sindh Human Rights Commission in collaboration with the Human Rights Department celebrated Human Rights Day, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). This foundational document enshrines the inalienable rights of every individual, irrespective of differences. It provided an opportunity to reflect on our progress and the challenges in protecting human rights globally.

The event focused on the launch of the Human Rights Policy, a study on Legal Aid Mechanisms in Sindh, and the unveiling of our innovative online portal, Sohris.com. SOHRIS will serve as a comprehensive resource hub, providing information on human rights, legal safeguards, and avenues for seeking remedy. This strategic initiative resonates with our 2023-2027 plan, emphasizing the empowerment of diverse societal segments through increased awareness and understanding of human rights. Barrister Rida Tahir led the proceedings as the event moderator.

Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of SHRC, emphasized the historical journey of the UDHR, from its inception in 1946 to completion in 1948. Highlighting its 30 articles covering civil, political, and economic rights, he termed the UDHR as the cornerstone of human rights.

He mentioned SHRC’s objectives, addressing human rights violations and abuses, and the accessibility of SHRC’s complaint form. He also stressed SHRC’s advocacy for Remand Homes and Women and Children Desks across districts. Barrister Rida Tahir, Legal Consultant SHRC, led a comprehensive study titled “Mapping of Legal Aid Mechanisms in Sindh Province.” This initiative aims to offer a panoramic view of legal aid services within provincial, national, and international legal frameworks.

Mr. Qindeel Shujaat introduced Sohris.com, the SHRC’s online portal, as a comprehensive resource hub on human rights, legal protections, and avenues for remedies. Jameel Junejo, Executive Director of the Treaty Implementation Cell within the Human Rights Department of the Government of Sindh, presented the updated Human Rights Policy. In her discussion, she touched upon children’s, women’s, and human rights.
