PML-N Supremo and former three-time Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif and party President Shehbaz Sharif deliberated the policy regarding preparation for the upcoming general elections. “Both the brothers held discussions on the prevailing political situation and the matters related to upcoming elections,” said the insiders while talking to Pakistan Observer on Thursday.

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif arrived at the party’s secretariat and congratulated his elder brother Nawaz Sharif over major victory in the legal battle of Avenfield reference. Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated Maryam Nawaz who was also present there. In response, Nawaz Sharif thanked Shehbaz Sharif and reciprocated with congratulatory messages.

Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday acquitted PML-N Supremo Nawaz Sharif in the Avenfield reference and also exonerated Maryam Nawaz and Captain (retired) Safdar.

However, there are still some major legal hurdles in the way of Nawaz Sharif as Al-Azizia reference and Thoshakhana case are pending in the courts.

During the meeting, both the leaders engaged in discussions regarding the current political landscape and exchanged views to effectively run the election campaigns. The tickets and selection of the candidates, the sources said, also came under discussion.

“The legal and political implications of the Avenfield reference outcome as well as the party’s future course of action were also discussed during the meeting,” said the sources.

Meanwhile, PML-N Punjab President Rana Sanaullah said that the past decisions against Nawaz Sharif were erroneous, leaving a stain on the judiciary’s reputation.

Talking to the reporters, Rana Sanaullah said that Nawaz Sharif finally received justice in the Avenfield reference after seven years. He termed Al-Azizia reference as fraud, saying that late Judge Arshad Malik’s decision is considered flawed.

“The decision in the Al-Azizia case should not remain in effect,” said Rana Sanaullah.
He was of the view that under the current circumstances, the Al-Azizia reference should be conclusively closed.
