Pakistan expresses solidarity with Jordan after deadly church shooting

Pakistan Expresses Solidarity With Jordan After Deadly Church Shooting

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan on Saturday strongly condemned the heinous terrorist attack at a funeral procession in a church in Karak Governorate, Jordan, which resulted in the loss of several precious lives, with many injured.

The Foreign Office said Pakistan extends its heartfelt condolences to the Government and the people of the brotherly Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, especially the bereaved families, on the loss of their loved ones, and expresses its sincere wishes for the speedy recovery of those injured.

Pakistan stands in firm solidarity with the brotherly people of Jordan in their fight against terrorism, and reiterates its strongest condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

A funeral gathering turned into scene of bloodshed in Jordan on Friday when gunmen opened fire at a church in Karak governorate, killing six people and injuring 28 others.

The shooting targeted mourners attending a funeral at Hamoud Church on October 23, triggering an urgent security response and a search for those responsible. Jordan’s Public Security Directorate confirmed the casualty figures, revising initial reports that had put the toll at seven dead and around 10 injured.

Early accounts said two armed men arrived in a vehicle, stepped out and opened fire on the gathering before fleeing. Conflicting reports emerged about whether they entered the church or fired at people around the building.

Government spokesperson Mohammad Al-Momani said security agencies were responding on the ground and would release further information once it had been verified. He urged the public to rely on official updates and allow investigators to carry out their work.
