The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has announced a grand operation against several defaulters, including government agencies, to recover Rs70 billion. Action is being initiated against the defaulters in a phased manner. In the first phase, a target has been set to recover dues from 11 departments of local bodies and civic bodies, including federal and provincial bodies.The campaign against defaulters of 11 government institutions will be launched from (Today) Tuesday. Reliable sources claimed that the letter number of Deputy Managing Director Tax Revenue for the campaign has been issued on KWSC / RRG /DMD /Estt/2023/44/L dated October 31, 2023. In total, Rs 4.34 billion is due on these government defaulters while not a single connection in the textile zone is paying the dues. In the 68 water bulk connections of CDGK and KMC, not a single tax has been collected. More than 9,000 high-rise and various housing projects, only 325 are billing.
It is pertinent to mention here that whenever a campaign is launched against them, it becomes a source of income for the officers instead of increasing the tax of the institution.The defaulters have been directed to deposit the dues within 7 days or else the process of disconnection will start from November 15, 2023. In the first phase, the connections of defaulters will be disconnected.
The defaulting institutions have been given a notice by CEO Water Corporation Syed Salahuddin to pay the dues within seven days, out of which some institutions have approached for payment, while a grand operation is being started from November 15 on the instructions of DMDR RG Imran IqbalZaidi against the non-contact organizations. In the meantime, in the first phase, the water connections of seven institutions will be disconnected.
The institutions whose connections will be locked including Pakistan Railways, SITE limited, two hospitals under KMC AbbasiShaheed, Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases, Safari Park, Hill Park and KMC Slaughter House Cattle Colony.Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation’s tax revenue has identified 450,000 consumers who are not paying water and sewerage tax. Officers and staff of tax revenue are being mobilized by rejecting the services of public and private courier service.
