LAHORE – Pakistan’s three-time prime minister and PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif makes a dramatic comeback in the country’s politics after spending four years in self-imposed exile.
The seasoned politician delivered a not-so-fiery speech, aiming at uniting all fractions but he got off on the wrong foot, singling out PTI women as song and dance keep crowds charged in rallies led by ousted PM Imran Khan, who is behind bars for more than 2 months now.
In his address at Minar-e-Pakistan, Sharif drew a comparison between his party workers and PTI supporters. He said PML-N female workers are listening very quietly as opposed to the ones dancing to the drumbeat at the PTI’s power shows.
The comments of the veteran politician triggered different kind of responses from social media users as his clip went viral. Amid the debate on his comments, organizers of the Karachi edition of the annual Aurat March slammed Nawaz Sharif.
Bohat khoob! Aik baar phir Nawaz Sharif, PML-N ke sarbarah ne siyasi mukhalifat mein khawateen ki siyasi sargarmiyon pe sasti juggat ki. Unhon ne abhi tak yeh nahi seekha ke khawateen ko 'achi' aurat aur 'buri' aurat mein taqseem karna pathron ke zamanay ka tareeqa-e-kar hai. 1/3 pic.twitter.com/c947nAGSvO

Aurat March handle on social media said PML-N chief has taken a ‘cheap shot’ on political activities of women. Dividing women between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ is a practice from the Stone Age, and passing comments on women’s character for being fond of dancing is disgrace.
“We suggest Nawaz to exit the cave of misogyny and review his thoughts,” the tweet said.
