In a first, the College Education Department has introduced an advanced online system for the selection of college principals. Thirty vacancies for principals were announced in the Karachi region.

This opportunity was currently provided only to the teachers of the College Education Department so that they could apply under the gradebased system. Speaking to The Express Tribune, College Education Department Deputy Secretary Rashid Ahmed Khoso said, “The initiative is aimed at revolutionising the process of selecting principals of government colleges in Sindh.”

In the first phase, the desired region would be selected. In the pilot phase, Karachi would be selected by default. The second step would be administrative experience. The third step would be based on computer skills using MS Office and smart applications. In the fourth stage, there would be training. In the fifth stage, higher qualification (MPhil/PhD) would be looked at.

Khoso said, “In the first phase, the vacancies will be for teachers of Karachi region only. “Of 30 posts, 11 posts are reserved for Grade 19 while 20 posts are reserved for Grade 20.” He said that any candidate who would apply, the candidate’s name, experience, and computer skills would be analysed, which would be of 20 marks – five for computer skills and as many for training, administration as well as on qualification system.

He said the names of the candidates would go to the regional director. Fifteen marks would be given by the Regional Director, after which the comments and remarks would go to the director general of colleges.

Twenty-five marks would be given by the director general. Then the record would go to the colleges secretary. “These candidates will be interviewed by the search committee which will be of 40 marks after which a merit list will be prepared based on which the selection will be made.”
