Several areas in India’s western state of Gujarat have been witnessing a flood-like situation over the past couple of days due to incessant rains, confirmed official sources on Monday.

The city of Bharuch was one of the most affected areas in the state. Several areas in the city remained inundated, and people faced difficulty in commuting. Other areas facing flood-like situation in the state included Narmada and Vadodara, added the sources. Railway traffic was adversely affected in Gujarat. Sources in the Indian Railways said that train traffic on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route had been halted since Sunday, as Narmada river was flowing above the danger mark between Bharuch and Ankleshwar stations.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said rainfall of 24 cm was recorded in Godhra area during the past 24 hours, and that heavy to very heavy rains would continue in some parts of the state at least till Tuesday. The state’s Directorate of Information said that efforts were being made by teams of the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority and the National Disaster Response Force to rescue people from the flood-affected areas.—Xinhua
