Protests against anti-people policies of the New Delhi-installed administration in Indian illegally occupied Jammuand Kashmir continue to surface in different areas of the territory.

According to Kashmir Media Service, inhabitants of Janipur area of Jammu staged a strong protest against inflated power bills, the new system of prepaid electricity bills and installation of smart meters.

A large number of people residing in Janipur and adjoining areas assembled on Amphalla-Bantalab Road near PDD [Power Development Department] office at Old Janipur to register their protest. The protesting inhabitants comprising men, women and children raised slogans against the Manoj Sinha led IIOJK adminisration, BJP and Power Development Corporation Jammu. While holding placards in their hands, the protesters disrupted the traffic at Janipur main stop by staging a sit-in.

The protesting people said that linemen of power department and other officials are promoting ‘Kundi’ system by extorting money from the slum dwellers while the local people are being handed over huge electricity bills. “We won’t tolerate this at any cost and would intensify the movement against it in the days to come,” they added.

Meanwhile, locals of village Rassain in Block Ghordi of Udhampur district locked the Govt High School Rassain to register their resentment against the School Education Department, which has turned a blind eye towards extremely bad condition of the school building, already declared unsafe. The villagers said the school has developed major cracks thus posing danger to the students as well as the staff members. They added that despite repeated pleas, no action was taken by the concerned authorities.—INP
