Minorities especially Muslims are no longer feeling safe in India as extremists Hindus in broad daylight are regularly attacking their places. In the latest despicable incident, four men barged into the house of a Muslim family and sexually assaulted an eighteen-year-old girl in Agra. The other members of the family were also attacked when they tried to resist assailants. As happens in other anti-Muslim acts, the perpetrators fled the scene and are still at large.
This only speaks apathy of all the Indian institutions including government, law enforcing agencies and judiciary towards the plight of Muslims. The attacks on Muslims under different pretexts have become a routine matter in different Indian states and this is the reason that various experts are warning of genocide of Indian Muslims.
Yet international community is acting as a silent spectator. This silence is only emboldening the fascist Modi regime to continue with its extremist Hindutva ideology. It is not only Muslims but also Christians and Sikhs that are also at great risk in India. Recent violent acts in Manipur state where hundreds of Christians have been killed as well as their buildings and churches burnt down should ring the alarm bells. Separately, Sikhs are also protesting in various parts of the world against the killing of their leader. They are accusing Indian government of being responsible for gunning down of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, President of a Sikh Temple and campaigner for the creation of an independent state that supporters hope to call Khalistan. It is time for world community to shun double standards and hold Indian leadership accountable for crimes against humanity. OIC countries must also raise strong voice for rights of Indian Muslims.
