Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, has strongly condemned the behaviour of the authorities of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir of keeping its president Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under illegal and arbitrary house detention for nearly the past four years.

The Anjuman in a statement said that today was the 199th consecutive Friday when occupied Kash-mir’s top religious leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was not allowed to perform the important religious duty of offering Juma prayer due to the continued house arrest. It said before the arrival of the holy days of Hajj and sacrifice, a large number of people, including men, women and youth, faced disappointment today when they were deprived of listening to their beloved leader’s sermons at the historic grand mosque.

The Anjuman said the restriction on the personal and religious freedom of the Mirwaiz is the worst violation of human and religious rights which is not only highly alarming but also against democratic values. Those who believe in human, democratic and religious values should raise their voices against it, the Ajnuman said.

Meanwhile, Awami Action Committee (AAC), headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in a statement expressed grief over the demise of the renowned broadcaster and intellectual Zahid Manzoor of Gogji Bagh, Srinagar. The AAC on behalf of the organisa-tion and its incarcerated Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq termed the demise as very sad and unfortu-nate and a great loss to Zahid Manzoor’s family, friends and the artist fraternity.

The statement said that the Mirwaiz could not attend the funeral prayers of the deceased due to his continued detention, which is extremely sad.

The organisation expressed condolence and sympathy with the family members of the de-ceased.—KMS
