In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Advocate Mohan Atri has filed a petition in the high court to direct the Katra police to investigate the death of a teenage girl, who was found hanging in a hotel at Katra on April 9, 2023. Advocate Mohan Atri in a media interview said, “We have filed a petition in the high court to seek investigation into the death of a teenager and a prayer to hand over the probe of the case to India’s Central Bureau of investigation (CBI).”
He said the high court has directed the Katra po-lice to file the status report. It’s in place to mention here a teenage female staffer of a prominent hotel in Katra town was found hanging under mysterious circumstances at the staff quarter of the hotel last month.
The 18-year old girl, according to police, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in the staff quarter of the hotel.
Advocate Atri said, “Police are resorting to dilly-delay tactics and this will lead to the evidence getting destroyed.”
He said, “The hotel in question is a 5-star hotel. People running it are influential and they own a chain of hotels. It seems the police are delaying the investigation.”
He said, “It’s the right of the family of the de-ceased to seek investigation but police are not coop-erating. Police should have sealed the room where the girl was found hanging. In fact the hotel too should have been seized.”
Advocate Atri said, “Investigations have been shoddy. There were no seizures. CCTV footage has not been checked. The case has been diluted. The victim is from a poor family that’s why the case has not been handled properly.”—KMS
