The European Union Pakistan, reacting to former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s arrest by the anti-graft agency National Accountability Bureau, has emphasized restraint and respect for law.
In a statement Tuesday, the EU Islamabad office held “In the context of Tuesday’s arrest of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, the European Union emphasizes that in such difficult and tense times, restraint and cool headedness are needed.”
The statement goes on to say, “Pakistan’s challenges can only be addressed and its pathway can only be determined by Pakistanis themselves, through sincere dialogue and in line with the rule of law.”
Meanwhile, besides the EU, foreign missions based in Islamabad spent a busy day inquiring their friends in the media and the Parliament about the latest developments in the episode of Imran Khan’s arrest and updated their governments back in their countries on hourly basis.
Pakistan Observer also received a number of calls from ambassadors and high commissioners of different countries and the envoys asked about the case (Misuse of power/Corruption in Al-Qadir Trust), its history and the future course of events.
One of the ambassadors asked how the anti-graft agency, the NAB could arrest Imran Khan when the Chairman NAB Lt Gen (R) Nazir Ahmad Butt was out of the country to perform Umrah.
